Local Politician to Act Foolishly (Intentionally)

ARTS CENTER PERFORMANCES CONCLUDE WITH A TOUCH OF MANIA

Returning to the scene of the crime, local writer, thespian and City Councilman, Max Mania, will descend The Beaver Hill Follies of 2010 upon the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center. The madcap vaudevillian revue presents a string of comic skits, written and directed by Mania, and will serve as the finale for the Center’s second Enter Stage Left series, which parallels north Peninsula performers with the visual artists in the annual Strait Art exhibition series.

Mania wrapped up last year’s series to a standing room only crowd and, like a newly heat-tempered politician, promises to go one better this time around with the debut of all new comic material. To give voice to his wit and wits will be veteran cast members returning from last year including Bob Bronsink, Ross Kavanaugh, Kate Carter, Tim Roach, Kathy Balducci and Mania, himself. In addition he has enlisted a posse of new local talent. Frank Romeo, Kat Dad, Merryn Welch, Greg Good, Craig Whalley and Sarah Tucker swell the cast to an even dozen.

Taking inspiration from many durable Pop culture sources that include creative touchstones such as Jack Benny, Bob & Ray, the Marx Brothers and MAD magazine, Mania has once again crafted a crackpot comedy sampler – this time with a slightly Greek theme. The comic arc of these character-driven playlets is telegraphed by the title of each episode. There’s Zorba the Greek Career Counselor, Pete Perkins – Frontier Pharmacist, and Brent Hamilton – Undercover Shriner, interspersed with lessons in Cussing 101. The evening will conclude with a testosterone charged climax in Hercules vs. Fu Manchu, an homage to the 1960s Steve Reeves mythological muscle flicks.

With statesman-like decorum Mania contemplated his task by saying, “We’ll be following many talented performers. They brought the class, and we’ll bring up the rear. It’s truly an honor to be asked to perform as part of the Stage Left series again.” To which Jake Seniuk, Executive Director of the PAFAC, seconded, “We had a date to fill, and Max was available.”

The show is suitable for all ages, and Mania’s mother will be in attendance from Oregon to make sure nothing inappropriate happens. Admission is by donation.
